Move-Out Checklist

Use this checklist to prepare the property for final move-out review. This checklist is intended to help tenants return the home clean, empty, documented, and ready for final inspection.

Official Notice Required: Submitting or reviewing this checklist does not replace the official Notice to Vacate. A formal Notice to Vacate must be submitted to Clear Direction Real Estate.

Before You Move

Complete these items before the final move-out date.

Provide management at least 30 days’ notice, or the notice required by your lease.
Provide management your forwarding address.
Forward your mail to your new address.
Update your new address with family, banks, employers, Amazon, online shopping accounts, and shipping accounts.
Turn on utilities at your new home.
Schedule utilities at the current home to remain active through the last day of your lease unless management gives different instructions.
Schedule lawn care, animal waste removal, and pest control through the last day of your lease if applicable.

Cleaning Crew Scope / Cleaning Standards

For Tenants and Cleaning Crews:
This section may be printed separately and provided to your move-out cleaning crew. These are the cleaning standards Clear Direction Real Estate will use when reviewing the property after move-out. Providing this to your cleaner helps ensure the home is cleaned to the expected standard before final inspection.
Unit must be completely free of all personal items and trash, including closets, shelves, cabinets, and drawers.
Wipe down all walls. Scrub where needed. Remove cobwebs.
Wipe down each door on all sides. Scrub where needed.
Wipe down all door jambs and frames. Doors should be in good working order with no signs of physical abuse.
Ensure all doors open and close properly.
Wipe down all door knobs and locks. Confirm they are working properly.
Wipe down each light fixture, light globe, ceiling fan, and fan blade.
Clean windows and window sills.
Clean, straighten, wash, or dust window coverings, curtains, rods, and blinds as applicable.
Wipe down all cabinets and drawers inside and outside. Confirm they function properly.
Wipe down all backsplashes and countertops, including bathrooms.
Check bathroom and kitchen counter caulking for dirt, mildew, or buildup.
Clean inside and outside of all sinks, tubs, and showers. Inspect for chips or damage.
Wipe down mirrors, trim, baseboards, and crown molding if equipped.
Clean faucets, drain covers, and sink pop-ups.
Vacuum all carpets and have carpets professionally steam cleaned if required. Pay special attention to edges where carpet meets walls.
Sweep and mop all hard surface flooring.
All appliances, including dishwasher, oven, cooktop, microwave, drip pans, knobs, and related surfaces, must be thoroughly cleaned, washed, and sanitized.
Use proper cleaning products for specialty surfaces, including glass cooktops and stainless appliances.
Clean and degrease vent hood and screens.
Inspect all switch plates and outlet covers. Clean or replace if broken or missing.
Clean and sweep all patios, balconies, storage closets, sheds, and garages.

Repairs, Paint, Fixtures & Final Condition

Ensure all door stops are in place and function properly. Replace if broken, missing, or bent.
Make sure paint looks good. Check walls, cabinets, and interior surfaces. Repair major marks and nail holes where required.
If painting was done, clean up all paint-related materials. Do not leave buckets, paint debris, clogged sinks, or paint residue.
Check boards and areas under sinks. Report leaks immediately if any are found.
Ensure outdoor lighting and fixtures function properly and are not broken.

Final Tenant Responsibilities

Remove all belongings, trash, debris, furniture, chemicals, garage items, attic items, and exterior items.
Upload house cleaning receipt if applicable.
Upload carpet cleaning receipt if applicable.
Upload utility termination confirmation if requested.
Upload proof of forwarding address if requested.
Return all keys, mailbox keys, garage remotes, gate cards, fobs, parking passes, and access devices.
Confirm the property is vacant, cleaned, and ready for final review.
